Strawberry Pincushion Beading Workshop with Wilma Cook Zumpano (CANCELED)
Join Mohawk artist Wilma Cook Zumpano as she leads you through the steps required to make your own beautiful beaded strawberry pincushion. Students will make and sew the berry pattern, stuff it with filler, attach leaves and decorate the finished strawberry with beads and a hanger. During the workshop Wilma will discuss how the strawberry is important to Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) culture and is even involved in the creation story. Materials are included in workshop fee ($14 value – students should bring their own scissors for cutting fabric). The workshop is suitable for adults and teens, and hand-sewing experience is helpful but not required.
Wilma (Kawennaronnion) Cook Zumpano, Akwesasne Mohawk, Wolf Clan, has been making native garments and keepsakes since her teen years.
