About the Library
The Research Library supplements the diverse and world renowned collections at Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum. Our broad focus includes New York State with an emphasis on Otsego and nearby counties, American, and Native American history, art, and material culture. The Library's Special Collections include rare books, manuscripts and archival collections, trade catalogs, pamphlets, broadsides, and ephemera.

Hours & Use Fees
Main Library (through the summer)
Monday - Friday:  10:00am - 5:00pm (Closed Saturday and Sunday)
There is a $5/day library use fee. Members, volunteers, Otsego County municipal historians, and students are exempt.

Please note the following closings:
December 12 (Monday) - from 12:00 - 2:00pm
December 23 - January 23 (Winter Break)

Special collections are open by appointment during normal business hours. Please email special collections for more information or to schedule your visit.

The Library is located on State Route 80, 1 mile from the village of Cooperstown on the west side of Otsego Lake, and is immediately to the north of Fenimore Art Museum. Parking is available in the Museum’s circular driveway.

Locating Resources at the Library
Search Pathfinder to discover our printed book and special collection holdings. All special collections are described at the collection level in Pathfinder. Special collections with online finding aids and inventories are available here.

Digital Collections
Special collection items that have been digitized are made accessible through New York Heritage. Fenimore Art Museum’s publication The History of Cooperstown, first published in 1929 by The Freeman’s Journal Company and updated in 1976, has been digitized and is fully keyword searchable. In addition, many Otsego County newspapers in the Research Library’s collection are available for browsing and text searching at New York State Historic Newspapers.
