The Fenimore Art Museum and LEAF, Inc. (Leatherstocking Education on Alcoholism/Addictions Foundation) host a free public reception on Friday, May 9, from 5:30–7:00 pm to celebrate the opening of a display of the work from the LEAF Art and Poetry Contest. There will be poetry readings and live acoustic music by Tom Wetmore on bass and Barbara Nark on fiddle. The art and poetry will be on display at the Fenimore through May 30.
The theme of this year’s contest, "It’s a Wonderful Life," is based on the classic film that depicts how one man’s contributions can lead an entire community toward the darkness or toward the light. Artists and poets submitted work that explores overcoming obstacles to find the joy and beauty in life.
LEAF artists and poets range from award-winning professionals to youth and community members who feel passionately about the theme but have never entered a contest or shown at a gallery before. Over fifty Otsego County artists are represented.
LEAF is a prevention agency whose mission is to help create vibrant, healthy communities free from the negative impacts of addiction.
