The Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown presents its eighth annual juried art event celebrating the relationship between artists and the landscape, Art by the Lake, taking place Saturday, August 8 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on the museum's expansive lakefront lawn. In addition to showcasing outstanding artists in all genres of landscape art, Art by the Lake features artist demonstrations, children’s art activities for all ages, live music with Sam Whedon and Friends, and some of the best food, wine, and beer from the region, all with the backdrop of picturesque Otsego Lake.
Art by the Lake is a juried art competition featuring 15 selected artists. These artists include Celia Clark, John Morette, Tracy Helgeson, Tom Hussey, Richard Kathmann, Andrea House, Deborah Angilletta, Lorraine Dewey, Robert Stangle, Jessica Dalrymple, Meg Anderson Argo, Anne Pascale Field, Mary Nolan, Maureen Sausa, and Joan Terrell Smith.
A panel of experts and art lovers, this year including celebrity guest judges Doug Plummer and Garth Roberts, proprietors of the American Hotel in Sharon Springs, determines awards, and spectator voting for Audience Favorite continues until 2:30 pm. The award ceremony takes place at 3:00 pm.
In addition to the spectacular art and just a short stroll away is the museum’s Native American interpretive site, Otsego: A Meeting Place, where you’ll find Native American storytelling at the new Lucy B. Hamilton Amphitheater. Tour the Museum’s acclaimed summer exhibitions including Maxfield Parrish: Art of Light and Illusion, Marc Chagall’s Magic Flute: Highlights from the Metropolitan Opera, and 50 at 20: Masterpieces of American Indian Art from the Thaw Collection.
Enjoy great cuisine prepared by Food Truck Cooperstown, locally crafted beers with tastings from Council Rock Brewery, and fabulous wines from Pailshop Vineyards. The Fenimore Café will also be open throughout the day. Additional community organizations at the event include The Smithy Center for the Arts, Cooperstown Art Association, and Otsego 2000.
