One of the most frequently performed operatic works, Madama Butterfly has become a well-loved standard for the Metropolitan Opera and other companies. The costumes, sketches, and photographs on display here represent highlights from the Metropolitan Opera's many varied productions, ranging from 1907 to the present day.
The Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown presents their own staging this summer, featuring Yunah Lee as Cio-Cio San and Eric Magiore as Pinkerton. As Glimmerglass conductor Joseph Colaneri has said, "The opera has a magically atmospheric orchestration, and Puccini's sense of dramatic pace allows the story to sweep from its exotic opening to a shattering conclusion."
