Biographical/Historical Note

According to its website, “The John More Association, Inc is an association of descendants of one couple, John and Betty Taylor More, who immigrated from Rothiemurchus, Scotland, in 1772 and were one of the first European settlers of Delaware County, NY.” [http://www.johnmore.com/index.html, accessed March 28, 2014].

In 1998 the Jonas More house was relocated from Roxbury, Delaware County, N.Y. to the Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Scope and Content Note

Records of the John More Association (JMA) include items related to the administration and activities of the group, such as photographs, correspondence, account books, genealogies, reunion proceedings and registers, publications, ephemera, membership information, scrapbooks, and a VHS videotape copy of the 1915 reunion. Includes correspondence of former JMA presidents Taylor More and Frederick Coville Woodburn. Also contains deeds, mortgage documents, agreements, photocopies of Samuel Ives Moore Civil War records, and other family papers from 1852 to 1915.
