Biographical/Historical note

George A. Yates was a Captain in the 251st Regiment of the New York State Militia, circa 1845-1846. He was probably born on Aug. 3, 1818, died on Aug. 11, 1900, and was buried in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris, Otsego County, N.Y.

Contains documents of the 251st Regiment of Infantry of the New York State Militia accumulated by George A. Yates, from the vicinity of Butternuts, Gilbertsville, and New Lisbon, N.Y. Includes orders, court-martial summonses, attendance rolls, and delinquent returns, most of them concerned with regimental inspection parades.
