Look & Learn: Objects & Their Stories
Grades: pre-K to 2nd | Duration: 1 hour
Every picture tells a story and so do the objects within the collections at Fenimore Art Museum. Students will learn how to analyze and “listen” to paintings, sculptures, and artifacts to learn how each object tells its own story and explains the culture it came from.
The Look & Learn tours are designed with the younger visitor in mind, to provide a fun and entertaining way for children to learn about art and how & why it was made. During the tour we will explore the permanent collections of the museum, including American folk art, genre paintings, and our popular and extensive collection of American Indian Art. As we explore with the students we will stop at particular pieces of artwork and study them in depth. What do the students see in the artwork? How is the artwork made? Who made it and why? How old is this piece of artwork? As we put the pieces together the students will gain a stronger understanding of art, history, and culture.
This tour meets New York State learning standards for the arts, social studies, and English language arts.
