[1] Letter from Craig Bates - 18 November 1997 - "On baskets T484, T485a,b, T486, T487, T488; all of them could as likely be Karuk, Yurok or Hupa, or, perhaps, even Wiyot. I know of no way to differentiate between the baskets of these groups, and elderly weavers I spoke with back in the early 1970s told me the same thing." [2] Coleen Kelley Marks' comments - "Added "or Karuk" to Hupa. Trinity River if Hupa, Klamath River if Karuk. Large trinket basket, with design part showing through to inside (usually denotes Karuk or even Shasta). Old stacked obsidian blade design with house ladder." - March 1996. |
