History Scholarly Attributions: [1] Whiteford Description - bet. 1993 & 1995 - "Early Zuni painted bowl. 1800-1900. 4 x 9". Western New Mexico. Glaze paint, made with copper and managanese or lead, was used here between A.D. 1300 and 1700. Prayer feather design. cf. Howard 1976, p.73. Provenance: Anthony Berlant, Los Angeles, Cal.; Xavier Fourcade, New York. SW081" [2] Whiteford catalogue text (not used), ca. 1998 - "Zuni pubelo has produced fine pottery for centuries and many of the old design traditions have been preserved. This simple bowl is decorated with two large volutes which symbolize birds; many of them have an eye in the point that resembles a beak. .. The clay used for this bowl and other Zuni pottery is dark gray..."
