History Scholarly Attributions: [1] Whiteford Description - bet. 1993 & 1995 - "Painted pottery jar, San Ildefonso Pueblo, Upper Rio Grande Valley, New Mexico. Stone polished and painted with organic pigrments. Harlow believes it was made by Martina and Florentino Montoya in 1905; Batkin says Tonia Pena Vigil in 1930s. 10 x 13 1/2". Illustrated in Harlow 1990, pl.75. Provenance: Robert V. Gallegos, Santa Fe; Morning Star Gallery, Santa Fe. SW019." [2] Whiteford - "This brilliantly made jar is typical of San Ildefonso pottery at its best in the early years of the 20th century. .. The beautifully executed decoration was done with red clay and black vegetal paint and formally arranged flowers were typical, but not common. .."
