Exhibit label line3 Seifert was a German-born artist who emigrated to Gotham, Wisconsin, in 1867 and earned a living raising fruits, vegetables, and flowers. In the late 1870s he began to supplement his income by painting scenes of neighboring farms and homes in a precise, meticulous style. In many cases, Seifert helped plan tree plantings and gardens for the farms he painted. Edward R. Jones was one of many southwestern Wisconsin farmers who, by the 1880s, had cleared their land and erected permanent buildings and were eager for images reflecting their accomplishments.
Description "Residence of Mr. E. R. Jones " Marks: On front: "Residence of Mr. E.R. Jones. Town Dodgeville, Wis. 1881." On reverse: "Upper right: "Whitney Museum of Art" label. There is a yellow NYSHA label, and a sunlight exposure label.
