Fenimore Art Museum
Saturday, August 9, 10am - 5pm

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (July 25, 2014) — The Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown announces its seventh annual juried art event celebrating the relationship between artists and the landscape, Art by the Lake, taking place Saturday, August 9 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on the museum's expansive lakefront lawn. The event offers artist demonstrations, exhibits of works by contemporary artists, activities for kids, live music with Sam Whedon and Friends, and great food and beverages all in a lavish setting overlooking Otsego Lake. The Beekman Boys will also be on hand in the morning to assist with judging and take part in a book signing.

Art by the Lake is a juried art competition featuring 13 selected artists. These artists include Deborah Angilletta, Meg Anderson Argo, Celia Clark, Tracy Helgeson, Andrea House, Tom Hussey, Richard Kathmann, Linda Kollar, John Morrette, Mary Nolan, Anne Pascale, Robert Stangle, and Cheryl Wright.

A panel of judges, this year including The Beekman Boys, determines awards, and spectator voting for Audience Favorite continues until 2:30 pm. The award ceremony takes place at 3:00 pm.

In addition to the spectacular art, there are creative children's art activities. A book signing from 10:30-11:30am will feature The Beekman Boys and their new "Heirloom Vegetable Cookbook." Plein air artists will be sketching and painting on the museum’s lawn and just a short stroll away is a visit to the Native American interpretive site, Otsego: A Meeting Place. Tour the Museum’s acclaimed summer exhibitions including Winslow Homer: The Nature and Rhythm of Life, from the Arkell Museum at Canajoharie.

Enjoy great, organic foods from Origins Café, locally crafted beers with tastings from Council Rock Brewery, and fabulous wines. The Fenimore Café will also be open throughout the day. Additional community organizations at the event include The Smithy Center for the Arts, Cooperstown Art Association, and Otsego 2000.

Admission to Art by the Lake is $10 (ages 13-64) and includes access to the Fenimore Art Museum and this summer’s popular exhibitions. Members of NYSHA and children 12 and under are free. Active and retired career military are also free when presenting their card at admissions. No other discounts apply.

Art by the Lake is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency. Proceeds from this event benefit Fenimore Art Museum’s education programs.
