COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (07/29/2013) — The Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown announces its sixth annual juried art event celebrating the relationship between artists and the landscape, Art by the Lake, taking place Saturday, August 10 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on the museum's expansive lakefront lawn. The event offers plein-air painting demonstrations, exhibits of works by contemporary landscape artists, educational programs, live jazz, and great food and beverages all in a lavish setting overlooking Otsego Lake.
Art by the Lake is a juried art competition featuring 15 selected artists. These artists include Deborah Angilletta, Meg Anderson Argo, Celia Clark, Jessica Dalrymple, Evelyn Dankovich, Denise Dolge, Grant Dolge, Olive Farrell, Tracy Helgeson, Andrea House, Tom Hussey, Linda Kollar, Lorraine Dewey Mulligan, Mary Nolan, and Anne Pascale.
A panel of judges determines awards, and spectator voting for Audience Favorite continues until 2:30 pm. The award ceremony takes place at 3:00 pm.
In addition to the spectacular art, there are creative children's art activities. Plein air artists will be sketching and painting on the museum’s lawn and just a short stroll away is a visit to the Native American interpretive site, Otsego: A Meeting Place, which will be staffed throughout the day. Tour the Museum’s acclaimed summer exhibitions including The Hudson River School: Nature and the American Vision and The Wyeths: A Family Legacy and local Cooperstown artist Susan Jones Kenyon's exhibition - Places in Passing: Contemporary Landscapes.
Enjoy great, organic foods from Origins Café, locally crafted beers from Brewery Ommegang, fabulous wines and The Fenimore Café which will also be open throughout the day. Additional community organizations at the event will include The Smithy Center for the Arts, Cooperstown Art Association, and Otsego 2000.
A gift basket donated by Cooperstown Wine & Spirits will be raffled off during the event.
Admission to Art by the Lake is $10 (ages 13-64) and includes access to the Fenimore Art Museum and this summer’s popular exhibitions. Members of NYSHA and children 12 and under are free. Active and retired career military are also free when presenting their card at admissions.
