The Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, New York presents its tenth annual juried art event celebrating the relationship between artists and the landscape. In addition to showcasing outstanding painters and photographers selling their work, Art by the Lake features artist demonstrations, children’s art activities, great food, live music, beer and wine tastings – all with the backdrop of picturesque Otsego Lake.
Art by the Lake is a juried art competition featuring artists from the region. A panel of judges determines awards and spectators vote for the Audience Favorite Award through 2:30 p.m. The awards ceremony takes place at 3:00 p.m.
While at Art by the Lake, tour the Museum’s acclaimed summer exhibitions featuring artists such as Andrew Wyeth, Herman Leonard, Lewis Hine, and Edward S. Curtis. See the Fenimore’s exhibits The Art of Figure Skating through the Ages: The Dick Button Collection, Hamilton’s Final Act, Between Observation and Imagination: Paintings by Tracy Helgeson, Dwell with Beauty: Native Americans at Home, and Still and Solemn Chambers: Recent Paintings by Frank Farmer. Also on view, an exhibit of paintings by last year’s Fenimore Award winner at Art by the Lake.
In addition to the spectacular art and just a short stroll away is the museum’s Native American interpretive site, Otsego: A Meeting Place, where you’ll find Native American storytelling at the new Lucy B. Hamilton Amphitheater. Visit our calendar for a complete list of tours to be given at Fenimore on August 19.
Enjoy great cuisine prepared locally, tastings of locally crafted beers, and fabulous wines. The Fenimore Café will also be open throughout the day. Additional community organizations at the event include The Smithy Center for the Arts/Cooperstown Art Association and Otsego 2000.
