Fenimore Art Museum presents its tenth annual juried art event celebrating the relationship between artists and the landscape, Art by the Lake, taking place on the museum's expansive lakefront lawn. In addition to showcasing outstanding painters, photographers, and sculptors selling their work, the event features artist demonstrations, great food, live music with Sam Whedon and Friends – all with the backdrop of picturesque Otsego Lake.

Art by the Lake is a juried art competition featuring 25 artists from the region. A panel of judges determines awards and spectators vote for the Audience Favorite Award through 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony takes place at 1:00 p.m.

While at Art by the Lake, you'll have access to the Fenimore’s acclaimed summer exhibitions featuring Andrew Wyeth at 100: A Family Remembrance and The Art of Figure Skating through the Ages: The Dick Button Collection. Other exhibits include Rise up Singing: Jazz Portraits by Herman Leonard, Hamilton’s Final Act, Still and Solemn Chambers: Recent Paintings by Frank Farmer, Between Observation and Imagination: Paintings by Tracy Helgeson, and others.

In addition to the spectacular art and just a short stroll away is the museum’s Native American interpretive site, Otsego: A Meeting Place, where you’ll find Native American storytelling at the Lucy B. Hamilton Amphitheater. Visit our calendar for a complete list of tours to be given at Fenimore on August 19.

Enjoy great food prepared locally by L.M. Townsend Catering and hear live music by Sam Whedon and Friends. The Fenimore Café and Fenimore Gift Shop are open throughout the day.

Art by the Lake is graciously supported by Mr. and Mrs. Alexander J. Shields.

Admission to Art by the Lake is $12 (ages 13 and up) and includes access to Fenimore Art Museum and this summer’s popular exhibitions. Museum members and children 12 and under are free. Active and retired career military are also free when presenting their card at admissions. No other discounts apply.
